The City of Prairie du Chien have received funds from the Wisconsin Department of Commerce - Bureau of Housing through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The grant funds are to assist income eligible residents in the City of Prairie du Chien to address housing needs. The funds are loaned to property owners to make certain improvements to their property.
Housing affects the stability of the workforce that industry seeks. Research shows that inadequate housing leads to problems at work, including
absenteeism and tardiness. Unstable housing in turn leads to unsuccessful
students in the next generation of workers. The aging housing stock of
Southwestern Wisconsin only intensifies the problem.
Community Development Alternatives tackles the problem of housing
through its many programs. Many of CDA’s grant initiatives hinge on job
creation, which in turn hinge on adequate housing for additional workers. In working with communities to rehabilitate housing stock, improve
infrastructure, and expand economic development, CDA establishes a
foundation upon which affordable housing becomes possible.
