The County Veterans Service Officer (CVSO) plays a critical role in the veteran's advocacy system and is often the initial contact in the community for veteran's services and is committed to provide a vital and efficient system of services and advocacy to veterans, their dependents, and survivors.

The CVSO advises and assists veterans and their dependents in obtaining federal veterans benefits from the VA. The service is free, and appointments can be made through a county veterans service office.

Health Care Aid Financial assistance may be provided to qualified, eligible applicants for: Dental Care Vision Care Hearing Care During any 12-month period, financial assistance for health care aid is limited as follows: Dental care, $2500 maximum Vision care, $500 maximum Hearing care, maximum of $1500 per ear Grant awards for health care aid cannot exceed the annual limits listed above, or the Assistance to Needy Veterans grant program $5,000 lifetime limit.

Veterans can borrow up to 90% of your home equity for home improvements. The $25,000 cap has been removed from the Home Improvement Loan Program.

The Home Improvement Loan Program (HILP) may be used for: Additions, garage construction, repairs and remodeling (i.e., replace a roof, install new windows, a new furnace or a central air conditioning system) of a veteran's residence.

The Personal Loan Program (PLP) can be used for any purpose. With optional repayment terms the PLP is flexible to better meet your needs.

WDVA's fixed-rate interest is generally lower than other 30-year mortgage loans. No private mortgage insurance is required, and no discount points are charged. A down payment of 5% is required. The loan may not be used to refinance an existing mortgage.

Recently unemployed or underemployed veterans may receive up to $3,000 per year if they have a financial need while being retrained for employment. The amount of the grant is determined by the applicant's financial need.

For the burial of eligible veterans, the cemeteries provide gravesites for casketed or cremated remains, engraved headstones or markers, opening and closing of the graves, and perpetual care free of charge. A fee is charged for interments of eligible veterans' spouses and family members.

Financial aid may be provided when there is a loss of income due to illness, injury, or natural disaster. Grants are awarded for subsistence aid for a 30-day period, up to a maximum of three months. Grant awards cannot exceed the annual limit of $2,000 total for subsistence aid during a 12-month period, or the Assistance to Needy Veterans grant program $5,000 lifetime limit. The maximum award that an eligible individual may receive for subsistence aid is $2,000 per occurrence during a consecutive 12-month period.

Veterans who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless can receive the services they need to obtain steady jobs and affordable housing. The program provides safe shelter at Veterans Assistance Centers around the state while the veteran obtains job training, education, counseling, medical care and other services.
