Description:

Catholic Charities extends its mission throughout west central Wisconsin through compassionate service, support and advocacy to individuals, families, and communities of all faiths and heritages, without regard to race, gender, national origin, age disability or economic status. Catholic Charities is called by the Diocesan Bishop to advance the social teachings of the Catholic church and to promote just human relationships in all structures of society. Catholic Charities seeks to build community along with other service organizations and to work cooperatively for the common good.

Catholic Charities is a faith-based non-profit organization serving the La Crosse Diocese.

The Prairie du Chien office offers 3 programs: Credit Counseling, the Domestic Abuse Program, and Emergency Support Services.

Financial Counseling offers help for people to learn about credit and finances, develop a household budget, manage debt, buy a home, prevent foreclosure, or obtain a reverse mortgage. Credit Counseling services are offered by Luanne Neumann in the Prairie du Chien office on Monday, Friday and every other Wednesday. Sandy Marx, Administrative Assistant, will be available to assist with questions and appointments.

Emergency Support Services program focuses on basic needs (food, gasoline, housing and utilities). To apply for assistance toward one of these basic services, you need to complete a written application. Completing an application does not guarantee that you will receive financial assistance. Applications are kept and reviewed for up to four weeks. Financial assistance is up to $100 per household. Once the application is received it will be reviewed and scored. Qualifying applicants will be contacted to come in for an appointment. Contact Sandy Marx to request an application.

Domestic Abuse Support seeks to increase safety and decrease isolation for victims of domestic abuse. We offer a 24 hour, toll-free helpline, counseling, advocacy, safety planning, and access to shelter and other services. Domestic Abuse Program services are offered by Randi Harris for support during and after domestic abuse situations. Contact Randi directly at the office. A volunteer or staff person is also available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling the hotline for emergency situations.

Other programs that are available through our La Crosse office include: Individual, Marriage and Family Counseling, Immigration Assistance, In Home Support, Adoption, Birth Parent Support, Legislative Advocacy and Representative Payee Program.
